UNICEF Nigeria in collaboration with Zamfara State Government has commences the disbursement of educational grants to over 10,000 children of the poorest across three selected local government areas of Maradun,Zurmi and Bukkuyum in Zamfara State.
The flag off of the cohort (1) which targets 3449 beneficiaries was done at the premises of Almajiri Special School Maradun after a warm reception at the Palace of the Emir of Maradun Garba Muhammad Tambari.
Under the arrangement each beneficiary is to receive the sum of 8000 naira per term and the grant is to support the child of the poor to having access to basic things required for conducive learning in schools.
Speaking at the event Zamfara State Commissioner for Education Ibrahim Abdullahi Spirow who stood in for the state Governor described the intervention as not only good but timely considering the level of set back in the educational structure of the state.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the state government in reviving the educational sector noting that, the Governor has since renewed his administration’s commitment in rebuilding new partnership with the development partners like UNICEF who are willing to take education to the next level.
He commended the Emir of Maradun Garba Muhammad Tambari for his passion and desire for Education noting that his assessment of the Emir is born out of his concern shown to some of his students who regularly visit Bakolori for excursion visit and urged him to sustain the tempo.
On his own part UNICEF Consultant in charge of Access to education Ahmad Hashim commended the state government for its continued partnership with UNICEF and express readiness to continue to support the state in its quest to transform education
He said UNICEF is to spend over 100,000,000 for the payment in all the three cohorts beside other intervention done before now adding that, UNICEF is ready to do more In that regard.
Earlier, Project Implementation Unit cordinator Hajia Maryam Yahaya Shantali, expressed her happiness over the support and cooperation being enjoyed by her unit from the Chairman ZSUBEB and urged him to maintain the tempo
